Flooring Focus: Project: Lee & Thompson, London

Toby Maxwell survey projects that set new and exciting standards for flooring

AMTICO’S Signature LVT flooring collection was specified by interior design experts Thirdway to provide the finishing touch to legal firm Lee & Thompson’s office headquarters update and rebrand in Fitzrovia, London. The design transformed the tired, dated space into a practical and inspiring commercial environment. The resulting contemporary workspace was given a high-end twist.

With Lee & Thompson looking to push the traditional boundaries in which they worked, Thirdway’s project team translated this mindset into design. Legal teams were previously spread over multiple floors, but were soon reallocated to one floor, so as to achieve a more collaborative and creative style of working. Amtico Signature LVT was chosen for the project, with two patterns from the Designers’ Choice collection offering an eye-catching means of enhancing the office atmosphere as part of Lee & Thompson’s long-term vision.

Some 71 sq m of Monotone, a design featuring three complementary neutrals in a bold pattern, was used in the kitchen and breakout area in a Key Stone Mini laying pattern, while 271 sq m of Mansion, French Weave arrangement, was fitted in the reception and meeting room in the honey-toned and textured details of Brushed Oak.

Zones were created within the office space to maximise functionality.

Flora Sharp, designer at Thirdway, says: ‘Lee & Thompson are no ordinary law firm. Their clients in media and sport are used to the delights of London’s members clubs and they wanted the office to emulate this. The geometric flooring was specified to add colour and eyecatching detail; reminiscent of tiled flooring, the boldpattern colours complemented the blue cabinetry. The individual hexagonal shapes also allowed us to create a bespoke design layout.’

The contrasting designs allowed for zones to be created within the office space, while maintaining the British-led style and sophisticated finishes integral to the overall design. In terms of the breakout area, this space also needed to accommodate events, so catering provision, kitchens and a large island for bar service were factored in, as was a 10m-long moveable glass wall. It was important for the materials specified to improve with age, without compromising the overall ‘members club’ feel. www.amtico.com /commercial
